a. Managing extensive evidence
If available evidence is extensive, even when it is systematically collated into guidelines, the resulting documents may prove large and unwieldy for implementation. Where this occurs, it is advisable to simplify the guidelines.
Simplifying guidelines or available evidence
will assist your project in:
Decision making on key data items
for measurement of evidence-based
practice;
Developing user-friendly formats
of the evidence for dissemination
amongst the clinicians (an intervention
to improve practice); and
Communicating with consumers and
carers involved in your project.
Simpler formats may require your team to agree on a
way of prioritising across available evidence. Priorities
will be influenced by how your team has defined and
categorised evidence.
Examples of simpler formats
include flow charts, algorithms or pathways
that reflect the key decisions or actions
that are required to provide care to
your patient cohort.
